Interview with the Author:Q: So, what prompted you to write the Complicated Creatures series?A: It's simple, really. I'm a huge fan of romantic suspense and action thrillers, and I felt there was something really missing in combining these genres. I also wanted to write really powerful female leads who, while impressive, are incredibly relatable, smart, self-reliant and gutsy.
Q: You seem to have a preference for wicked cliffhangers. Why is that?A: Like its namesake, these stories are about complicated characters in difficult, provocative situations. In this second book, I'm introducing new characters, diving deeper into Sam's psyche and her past, helping the reader to understand who she is and what she's motivated by. Each book is meaty and intense. I originally began thinking it would be a single standalone novel. Boy, was I wrong. The books have been practically writing themselves--I'm just a conduit now.
As a result, I'll be wrapping the Complicated Creatures series up with Part 3, but I anticipate several off-shoots from these characters. More to come!

Love triangle, cool villains

Oh, holy cliffhanger Batman!!
The second installment of Complicated Creatures by Alexi Lawless is another fast-paced, gorgeously written, winner of a book. From the first page to the last I was pulled right in.
This gem has a little bit of everything. Action...check. Romance...check. Suspense...check. Love triangle, cool villains, awesome supporting cast...check, check, check.
The writing is flawless and paced perfectly. The only potential negative for this book is the cliffhanger ending, but I don't mind them.
I will be rereading this book. I will also be waiting with baited breath for the next. Kudos Ms. Lawless on another fantastic adventure.

Looking Forward to Part 3!

This book is just completely amazing. The story takes off from where part one ended and gets better. You have the same characters, but new ones as well that add an interesting mix to the game of survival. Rox is one of them. Rox is totally awesome and a walking ghost that is very good at digging up what people don't want found. Sam added a new member to her group of lethal weapons. Avi is always on the alert and is a surprise. Lightner is a freak and through the whole book I wished him dead. He and Nazar are very good villains and they really just make you want to punch them in the face.
Jack kind of steps up in this book even though he falls off the wagon. I shake my head at his whole family, but especially his father. He’s supposed to be this important man and yet he keeps giving classified information and files to his sons. Wesley really just needs a beat down, I’m getting so tired of him. I really just want to punch him in his damn face. From where I see it he has no right to be mad, he left Sam not the other way around. Now he wants to come back and push his way into her life, get mad at Jack for being there for her...um no. Sam, she’s my girl and is still taking names and doing what she does. She has so many war wounds it’s not even funny and she gets more added on in this second part of the journey.
I love how the author switches to different points of view and lets you know when she’s doing it. She not only gives a place and date but a time as well, which really helps. You don’t get lost in what’s going on and she has definitions for the foreign words she uses.
I loved reading this and have been waiting anxiously for part 2. It did not disappoint and I cannot wait to read part 3.

"It’s impossible to love without risk..."

The highly anticipated part 2 is finally here! Get ready and go grab a copy today. I had already pre-order this book from Amazon, however a week before release day, Alexi reached out to me and asked if I would like to receive an ARC. Wow! It was like winning the lottery. I can’t believe I was given a chance to read it before release day. This is why I love indie authors and will forever support them. You feel personally connected to them. (I did not cancel my pre-order so now I have 2 copies of Complicated Creature Part 2 on my kindle library).
When I first stumbled across Compliance Creature Part 1, I wanted to reached out (stalked on google) to Alexi. Luckily, she was on FB and I was able to connect to her to let her know how much I love the book (just by reading Chapter 1). She responded right away and to let me know how much this made her day. Well, she made my day by reaching out to me and giving me the honor and pleasure to read and review her 2nd book. I just want to point out that I am not a blogger and my review on the 2nd book in this series will not be sway by the fact that this was given to me.
I love the first book so I was a bit scare going into the 2nd book. I mean, how and what can Alexi pull to top the 1st book? Well, she DID IT AGAIN! The story was packed with actions, literally from the beginning. I have no idea where she was taking me in this journey and she continues to leave me guessing at every turn. A few new supporting characters were also introduced and I know you are probably wondering, WHAT? I mean there were good amounts of supporting characters from the 1st book. How can she add more without being confusing and complicated? GUESS WHAT? This is what makes Alexi writing stands out. She delivered such complicated plot and characters into this well written story.
In this 2nd installment, we get Samantha, Jack, Wes and 1 new supporting character’s POV. I really like the POVs because you can feel what the characters are going thru and gives you an understanding of them. Saw the vulnerability of Sam behind that thick exterior she puts up and what made her the way she is today. “You’ve made those walls so high, they’re nearly insurmountable”. Learned more about Wes and why he broke off with Sam. I agreed with Carey, “I understand your logic. That doesn't change the fact that you've made your bed”. Jack was a bit of mess in this book. But it just made me love him even more. It’s painful to “love someone more than they love you”. That brings me back to the question, who will Sam choose or will she? I still have a lot of questions surrounding Sam and why did Alexi choose to give us this new supporting character POV.
Without going into any spoilers, I highly recommend you to pick up this book and read it yourself to experience this type of writing. I will be reading Complicated Creatures 1.5 while patiently waiting for Part 3.
Thank you Alexi, darling for taking the “plunge” and follow “the dream”. I hope to see this on the big screen one day.
