For remote sensing, the basic fundamentals are the properties of electromagnetic radiation and their interaction with matter. This radiation is received by sensors and platforms in analogue or digital form, and is subject to image processing.
In photogrammetry, the stereo-concept is used for the location of information in 3D. With the advent of high-resolution satellite systems in stereo, the theory of analytical photogrammetry restituting 2-D image information into 3D is of increasing importance, merging the remote sensing approach with that of photogrammetry. The result of the restitution is a direct input into geographical information systems in vector or in raster form. The fundamentals of these are described in detail, with an emphasis on global, regional and local applications. For data integration, a short introduction into the GPS Satellite positioning system is added.

This textbook will appeal to a wide range of readers, from advanced undergraduates to all professionals in the growing field of geoinformation.

Following the killer's trail over the years, Casie E. Hermansson looks at the impact of nineteenth-century translations into English of the German fairy tales of the Brothers Grimm, and the particularly English story of how Bluebeard came to be known as a pirate. This book will provide readers and scholars an invaluable and thorough grasp on the many strands of this tale over centuries of telling.

Elizabeth Castro, author of HTML 4 for the World Wide Web, understands the intermediate user: someone who would be bored by a beginner's guide, but isn't ready to step up to heavy-hitting programming texts either.

In Perl and CGI, she explains basic concepts--such as the difference between a compiled and an interpreted script--within the text, so there's no need to keep flipping back to the glossary. Readers should be familiar with HTML and comfortable with technical explanations, diagrams, and general vocabulary.

Anyone trying to get a grasp on something as complex and powerful as Perl will appreciate Castro's relatively straightforward technique. Good text for beginners

With 71 other reviews there's no much to add -- but I'll throw my two cents in here anyway.
If you're looking for an 'in-depth' book on Perl/CGI -- look elsewhere. If you're a beginner like me, this is a book to buy.
Seriously, if you're teaching yourself then you'll always need more than one book on whatever subject you're learning. You'll want to suppliment this volume with other manuals. But viewed by itself, the author does an admirable job of getting her subject across -- even to thick folks like myself. I found concepts and codes shown in this book to be much clearer than in other texts I've read. Now I can go back to the 'other texts' and (hopefully) understand what they were trying to teach me.
I also believe that I will find this to be a good reference volume as I write scripts. Each function is laid out in step-by-step detail and won't take a lot of reading or thinking to refresh my memory.
If you want to learn Perl and you're just starting out. This is one of the first books you should buy. Quite reasonable at about $15, too.

If you need to learn perl quickly, this is the book for you

I needed to pick up perl in a few days to help out with a web site. My current knowledge? Pretty good HTML, pretty basic C++. This book did the trick. In a few days I was up and running making additions to scripts and writing my own functions.
If you need depth you won't find it here, but if you need to get up and running quickly, this is the best book of its kind. Especially if you like to skip around and get the big picture quickly, there is no handholding step by step by step by step by step here. It's condensed material with simple code examples that you can look at and say - Oh, I get it.
So I've sold this book enough, but it really did help me out.

I'm a PERL beginner. I checked out several books from the library and this one, PERL and CGI, was the best fit. It gives a very good overview of what PERL is and its syntax. After just a couple of hours of reading I think I could start writing my own simple scripts. Easy to read and understand. I liked it so much I bought a copy from Amazon to keep as a reference! Not as an exhaustive reference --it's not that --but as a reference for all the common techniques and principles. Although there are a lot of illustrations, they're not really critical to the book. My only criticism is that the print in the pictures is so small it's hard to read.

Unforgettable Historical Fiction!

Richard Ben Sapir is a master of historical fiction and "Quest" is his masterpiece. This simply is one of the best novels I have ever read. "Quest" is the modern-day search for the Holy Grail. The Cup of Christ is followed throughout history, resulting in the rise and fall of governments, fortunes won and lost, and inevitably, murder and international intrigue. The characters are extremely engaging and actually became a part of me as I read. If you enjoyed "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade," find and absorb this thriller.
Another exellent novel by Richard Ben Sapir-"The Body," a novel of historical fiction set in context of an archeological dig. A crucified body is discovered in a rich man's tomb; the discovery reveals information that changes the lives of all in the encounter. Breathtaking and spiritually enriching!

Little Known Gem

Imagine a search for the Holy Grail, with the pure-of-heart "knight" an ex-cheerleader from Ohio and the "Arthurian" figure a New York City Cop. Throw in a James Bond-like Brit, lots of lore about jewels through history, mix with humor, suspense, and a love story, and you have this witty, intelligent thriller, which makes the Da Vinci Code look like simplistic nonsense it is. Although some of the contemporary references will seem a bit dated, this is one of the most entertaining and enjoyable books I've read. It's a shame it's out of print; if you find a copy, grab it, enjoy, and tell more people.

The quest is as engrossing as it is educational. It has elements of "The Death of Arthur", "The Source", and "Indiana Jones and Last Crusade". The story is richly told, the villian truly evil and yet fascinating. It is such a good story, well told, that I recently ordered a replacement for the volume I lost when I loaned it a friend. A long time fan of "The Destroyer" series, I found this book to be an elegant departure.

UVa German Prof One of the Nation's Best

Benjamin Bennett of the University of Virginia is one of the nation's very best, and Beyond Theory shows why. Bennett probes the question of irony in 18th-century German Literature insightfully and at times humorously. I am not a specialist of German Literature, but reading this book made me want to study German ! Bravo Mr. Bennett!
