A high level procedure with little technical depth

I found this book somewhat more useful than Book 1 of this series. The focus of this book is a 10 step Dimensional Control Procedure. Step 1 is to identify dimensional quality goals (which he also calls objectives). He allocates a significant portion of the book on the topic of developing objectives. The next section is on strategies and how to evaluate them using a 1 dimensional roll-down procedure to allocate tolerance objectives to sub assemblies using the RSS method. Actual strategies are only briefly described such as the mill & drill technique used on the Pontiac Fiero. He discusses the concept of a stress free build, where parts are assembled without the need to distort them from their free state. A proper observation he makes is that the datum targets (which he calls datums) used for inspecting the part should be the where the assembly fixture contacts the part to locate it. But he makes no connection that proper GD&T requires that datum targets or datum features represent functional requirements, so identifying datum targets where the part is located by the assembly fixture is just good GD&T practice.
