About the Author
Jay M. Shafritz is Professor of Public and International Affairs at the University of Pittsburgh in Pennsylvania. He is the author, co-author, or editor of over forty textbooks and reference books on business and public administration. He holds a doctorate from Temple University and an MPA from the Baruch College of the City University of New York.

J. Steven Ott is a professor and dean emeritus at the University of Utah. He has written numerous books on organization theory, organizational behavior, nonprofit organizations, and organizational culture. His recent journal articles have appeared in the International Journal of Organization Theory and Behavior, Public Organization Review, Public Performance & Management Review, Public Administration Review, and Public Integrity. He teaches organizational behavior, organizational leadership and change, the nonprofit sector in society, nonprofit organization management, and organization theory. Ott worked as a management consultant to organizations in the nonprofit and public sectors for 26 years before joining the faculties at the universities of Maine and Utah. His Ph.D. is from the University of Colorado, his M.S. from the Sloan School of Management at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and his B.A. form Pennsylvania State University.

Yong Suk Jang is a professor of Public Administration at Yonsei University. He received his Ph.D. in sociology from Stanford University and taught at the University of Utah (2001-2004) and Korea University (2004-2008). His current research interests include macro-comparative analyses of nation-states and organizations, governance, and neo-institutionalism. Recent publications include Classics of Organization Theory, 6th & 7th ed. (Wadsworth Cengage Learning) and articles in Administrative Science Quarterly, Asian Business and Management, Sociological Perspectives, International Sociology, International Journal of Comparative Sociology, Social Science Computer Review, Development and Society, Korean Public Administration Review, Journal of Korean Association for Policy Studies, The Journal of Educational Administration, Review of International Area Studies, and Quarterly Journal of Labor Policy, Human Resource Management Review, and Korean Journal of Sociology.

Great Collection Of Classics Of Organizational Theory
By Dr. Jones
This is another collection of readings that illustrate the intellectual development of an academic discipline. Organization theory is a discipline that is important to understanding how the building blocks of modern society work and how that shapes the behavior of those members within each organization. The readings are representative of what happened in the development of this literature. You also are treated to some commentary explaining why what happened did and explanation for each development. All in all, a great book.

It was okay

I purchased this for .99 cents on Amazon so it was a good deal for the read. My favorite was book 2 so it made it all worth while.

Book 1 – Bobby and June and childhood friends, best friends until Bobbys mother takes him away after divorcing his dad at age 12. She keeps him from his father and never sees June again until 15 years later. In that time he has become somewhat famous for his band The Aces. His father is dying so she gives him all his fathers’ letters and he goes to him to spend the remainder of his life with him. June has gone no where, she is a waitress in a diner and married a local who she never really loved and who is abusive to her. She has filed for divorce when Bobby comes to town. He hires her to help care for his father. There really isn’t much to like about either of these characters. She is a doormat and he is a hot head, she remains a doormat even with Bobby. His actions are that of a two year old. After his father funeral he comes to his senses and straightens up realizing he has a baby on the way. She moves with him to Vegas, has the baby and this moves us to the next book in the series, Chaz’s story.

Book 2 – I really enjoyed this book. Chaz I the lead singer of The Aces. He has been with Neve for 3 years in a dysfunctional relationship. When they hire a female bassist to replace Manny he is instantly attracted to her. Once he catches’ Neve and their band manager together he kicks her out. He pursues Ryan although she is hiding things from him. He promises everything will be ok and he is patient with her over her secrets. She leaves the band abruptly to go back home and he follows her to find out what is going on with her. Manny comes back to the bank to replace her for the rest of the tour for a few weeks while she takes care of a home situation. Chaz is there for her when she comes back to the band and they get married and start a family.

Book 3 - Donnie is the crazy funny drummer for the band. He helped deliver Bobby and Junes baby via a 911 operator in book 1. He meets Nora at a function for law and protection services they play for. He is instantly attracted to her even though she isn’t his normal bimbo blonde type. He sees her later singing at a burlesque show and being drunk pulls her off the stage. He is arrested and this starts a down hill spiral of his life being out of control and also brings the band and her down also. Making her a target for reporters. It’s really a trainwreck of useless, over the top drama. After he Od’s, the band calls a permanent hiatus for him to get his act together. When Nora goes to his house to see him they finally hook up towards the end of the book. They get revenge on her previous employer by buying her place and opening their own entertainment business for them to perform together. On opening night he proposes.

5 Hott as Hell Rocking Stars

I read each of these books as they came out and loved them one more than the other! I didn’t review Rock Country because I am an ***hat and didn’t always review books as I read them… but I assure you I loved Bobby and June’s story so much!!! My reviews for the other books are below:

Rock Heart
“Everything is going to be okay”….
When Chaz Montgomery says it you so believe him… After all, he is a sexy, tattooed, swoon worthy rocker!!!! Chaz is the lead singer of his band and is actually engaged to another woman at the beginning of the book, however, if you read the first book, Rock Country, you probably already don’t like her lol. If you were in anyway on the fence about it believe me you will dislike her immensely as you read this book.

When Taylor Ryan (“Ryan”) auditions for the bassist opening in the band, Chaz realizes just what a mistake his current relationship is. Ryan is such a great addition to the band and everybody loves her. She can play and has a great personality. She does come with a few secrets though, which puts a strain on her new relationship with Chaz. When tragedy strikes all secrets are revealed and it is up to Chaz to prove that everything will work out. This is when Chaz really shines and if you weren’t already in love with him you will be now. “I love you so much. I’ll fight everyday to get you back. Angel, I told you we are more…. Can’t you see that my love for you defies everything?”

The story of Chaz and Ryan is so well written and will have you feeling so many different emotions. The other characters are such a bonus and will have you truly laughing out loud. “Man, that ain’t no f***ing angel. That’s your devil”

I can’t recommend this book enough. I really loved this book and all of its characters. This is only my second read of Kristi Webster’s but let me tell you she is definitely moving to the top of my TBR list....

I loved this book, this whole series actually! I have known since book one that I loved Donnie and he was just a misunderstood hot mess. When she meets Donnie, she initially blows him off, but that doesn’t last very long. Each time she sees Donnie, she sees more of the real him, she knows he is coming apart at the seams and has an overwhelming urge to save him.

“With Donnie, I want to protect him but have him protect me at the same time. I want to know what makes him tick. I want to tear down his bulls**t, fake walls of fun to get down to the real him – the him nobody else knows.”

I love the way the author brings these two together. The way they interacted and bantered back and forth keeps you going through out the whole book. Thanks so much for another awesome read, Kristi Webster. I cannot wait for Daphney’s story, I have a feeling it might just be the best one yet.

Very informative!!

I am Russian so I knew quite a lot about Russian history before opening this book. The book is the best guide to Russian history of the period. Here's why:

-It is written in a wonderful language - very easy to read, yet directed towards scholars.
-History is divided into chapters that concentrate on specific subjects.
-It is full of details that other history books often lack. I was surprised to see Bruce Lincoln use original Russian words instead of finding an English equivalent for it (such as "izba," "domovoj," "dvorovoj," "lapti," etc.).
-Finally, I've not yet read a book that concentrates so much, and gives such an in-depth study, on the subjects that are usually avoided being talked about "pre-revolutionary" times (simply because they are deemed not important in the light of warfare).

With this book you will get a clear idea of what the Russian society looked like on the dawn of WWI. Bruce Lincoln actually spent several years in the Russian archives doing research (but not just for this book), so he has a first-hand knowledge on the subject.

The chapters discuss the following subjects:

Chapter 1 - 1891: The Fateful Year:
Basic overview of the situation in Russia by the year of 1891: famine, construction of trans-Siberian railway, some politics.

Chapter 2 - In the Wake of Famine:
Famine, peasants and life in the country.

Chapter 3 - Russia's New Lords:
Emancipation, new layer of society "Kuptsi" and arts and trade associated with it.

Chapter 4 - Life in the Lower Depths:
Proletariat and life in cities and towns.

Chapter 5 - The Few Who Dared:
Revolutionaries - formation of the political parties, radicals, impact on literature.

Chapter 6 - Defenders of the Old Order:
Royal Defenders - key figures that supported the old "tzar" order; their lives and activities.

Chapter 7 - "A Small Victorious War":
The Japanese War - why, when, and how. Gives the background, as well.

Chapter 8 - 1905: The Year of Turmoil:
Revolution of 1905.

Chapter 9 - "What We Want is a Great Russia!":
Government - parties, duma, people behind the law, the lawmaking process.

Chapter 10 - "The Children of Russia's Dreadful Years":
Art revolution.

Chapter 11 - The Last Days of Peace:
Political situation at the dawn of the WWI - foreign relations and repressions.

Chapter 12 - The Drums of War:
WWI and how it affected Russia and its people.

A nice suprise

I am very interested in Russian history from 1891 through WWII since I collect a certain rifle that was used during that whole period. I have read various histories from the Russo-Japanese war of 1904-1905 through many of the WWII books that are available. When I saw this volume at a used book store for $4, I figured what the heck. At least I might be able to use it for a reference.

As I opened the cover and saw it started in 1891, I became optimistic. A few pages into the first chapter convinced me that I found a gem; an interesting and informative overview of what is a very important part of Russian history.

In the forward, W. Bruce Lincoln states the book is "...an effort to explore the lives, thoughts, hopes, and dreams of the men and women who lived in the world's largest empire and to convey some sense of the tensions that tore at the fabric of their existence on the eve of the Great War and the Revolution of 1917." In this effort he succeeds brilliantly.
We see portraits of Tsar Alexander III, Nicholas II, Pobedonostsev, Lenin, Rasputin, and a host of other generals, officials and ordinary people who shaped that era.
We get an insider's look at what life was like in a peasant community, inside the peasant's izba or house, and their attitudes towards schooling, medicine and religion. We go inside the growing factories and the slums the workers inhabited in the cities with rapidly developing industry. We see the new nobility of the industrial barons, the revolutionaries fighting the tsarist autocracy, the defenders of the Old Order...all come to life in these pages.
Graphic descriptions are given of the vicious pogroms against Jews. The impact of the Trans-Siberian Railroad in both economic and a political aspects is covered. The 1904 war with Japan is there with its criminally incompetent generals and and admirals and the war's impact on the development of the Revolution of 1905 as well as the mood of the populace as the nations slides toward the Great War.
This well written, illuminating, detailed and well documented book is a classic work on the Russian society of those years and fleshes out the soul of Russia as few other books do. 16 pages of photos. Highly recommended.

We all know someone or have been someone who struggles with being at their last brink of hope and finding that with God there is always hope and with Him things can be made more amazing than we could ever imagine when we turn to Him with all of our hearts...
