Disappointed

I had purchased an ABACUS for my 6 year old grandaughter. I was excited about it beacuse, I PRESUMED there would be "BEGGINERS" material for abacus to be found,especially at AMAZON.

Unfortuneatly the number 3 book was to advanced even for myself.

If you know of any ABACUS FOR BEGIINERS,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,I would be greatfull.

Learning the Clarinet

My daughter's wind ensemble class required Standard of Excellence book for class. We decided to buy this enhanced edition because it came with the CDs and honestly was still less expensive than buying it at our local music store. My daughter said this book is easy to understand and that she likes having the CDs to listen to...it helps her hearing the timing of some of the pieces when she is practicing at home on her own. Her class only has music half the week so a lot of time she's working with this book on her own and it's been a great tool for her.

I learned to play the flute from these books 20+ years ago. I am teaching my youngest to play using this book and it she now almost finished and can play the basics quite well. I have now taken on another friend's kid as a student who will also learn using this book. As long as they practice, and with a little guidance, this book will teach them what they need to know to beging playing the flute.

Binding is a problem

This is a great book, with lots of songs, large print, and good chording. But the binding on the copy I received made it impossible to play. I had to take it to a print shop, have them cut the binding and put on a spiral binding. Now the book is close to perfect, as it lies flat, something it wouldn't do originally. As long as I'm nit-picking, I have one other complaint. The key signature is only given on the first line of each song, rather than an all lines, as is customary on most such volumes.

A GREAT FAKE BOOK

The chord work used is "outstanding". I've had many of the same pieces in other books, but in this book the publisher added additional chords to each piece and the chords fit the songs "perfectly". Flatted 9ths, diminished chords, minor 6ths all included. The pages are not congested and the print is very clear. This music book is extremely well done.

Changes the way you think about everything around you

This book a fantastic example of how to change the way you think about the things you already have in your home or business, and the bigger the better. I love anything that encourages people to reconsider the way they see things they learn to take for granted by the attrition of time and this book does that with incredible ideas and examples, excellent photography (a standout, particularly with the introduction of techniques), and plenty of how-to for recreating the focus and feel of any space no matter how big or small.

It's an excellent gift for a creative homeowner, but property owners, business owners and realtors can definitely use the applied techniques outright and immediately.

Barb Blair's second book is even better than the first. Full of furniture makeovers, creating statement pieces for your home along with loads of information on how to do it all yourself. There is something to suit most tastes and styles and the beautiful photography by Paige French really brings the book and Barb's work to life. It's not just a book of before and after pics - Barb gives detailed tutorials on how to repurpose old, outdated pieces of furniture so they fit your home and become an anchor for your room, building up the rest of the decor to create your own signature style.

Great book! Barb is so talented and the pictures of her work are inspiring and impressive. I especially love the "Advanced Techniques" section in the back of the book that gives step by step instructions on how to create the designs she has displayed. This book is useful and it's great to have on display for guests to flip through!
