Karen V. Root is Associate Professor and Graduate Coordinator in the Department of Biological Sciences at Bowling Green State University. Her primary research focus is the conservation of native biodiversity, including conservation planning and management. This research combines ecological field studies with the application of quantitative techniques such as G.I.S. and risk assessment to conservation issues across many scales. This book is worth the price, which fortunately is starting to drop down to a more reasonable one. The Drs. Banerji, three generations, have seen so many patients that they analyzed the results and were able to formulate homeopathic remedies that are used like regular medicines. This approach eliminates the guesswork involved in using classical homeopathy. The remedies I have tried for four conditions have worked very well. It is very helpful to be given a specific remedy with the dose and frequency of administration determined. Some of the Protocols use remedies in strengths that may be hard to obtain. Those who are not ordering through a homeopath and who want to obtain these can phone 1-800-Homeopathy or Homeopathy Works (1-800-336-1695). It is also possible to order remedies from the authors' Banerji Foundation in India, which will mail them.

The Banerji Protocols have drawn attention internationally, and the Banerji Protocols for cancers of various types--including brain cancer--are being investigated by prominent US medical institutions such as MD Anderson, in Texas, and the National Cancer Institute, in Bethesda, Maryland.

Here is what the Drs. Prasanta and Pratip Banerji write in their 2013 book, published in India and available at amazon.com, about Ruta graveolens and Calcium phospate:

"Both in vivo and in vitro results showed induction of survival-signaling pathways in normal lymphocytes, and the induction of death-signaling pathways in brain cancer cells. Cancer cell death was initiated by telomere erosion and completed through mitotic catastrophe events. [Cancer cell division was disrupted and inhibited.] We proposed that Ruta, in combination with Ca3(PO4)2 [Calcium phosphate], could be used for effective treatment of all types of brain cancers, particularly glioma." (p. 16)

"Rutin, the active ingredient of Ruta, is known for its anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory activities, and also for reducing oxidative damage in a rodent model. In addition, Ruta is also known to protect from DNA strand breaks and to prevent mutagenesis. Calcium phosphate activates phospholipase, which cleaves a membrane bound molecule that activates protein kinase C." (p. 17)

Amazing work.

It's really amazing what these guys have accomplished and are doing. There are about 260 protocols in the book. Hopefully at some point they'll put out a second book, though, because not every protocol is in the book. Evidently they wanted to get the most important ones out there so they went ahead and published. If you follow Joette Calabrese on Facebook or her blog www.joettecalabrese.com, she tells of some others that aren't in the book.

About the Author

Michael Parkin is Professor Emeritus in the Department of Economics at the University of Western Ontario, Canada. Professor Parkin has held faculty appointments at Brown University, the University of Manchester, the University of Essex, and Bond University. He is a past president of the Canadian Economics Association and has served on the editorial boards of the American Economic Review and the Journal of Monetary Economics and as managing editor of the Canadian Journal of Economics. Professor Parkin’s research on macroeconomics, monetary economics, and international economics has resulted in over 160 publications in journals and edited volumes, including the American Economic Review, the Journal of Political Economy, the Review of Economic Studies, the Journal of Monetary Economics, and the Journal of Money, Credit and Banking. He became most visible to the public with his work on inflation that discredited the use of wage and price controls. Michael Parkin also spearheaded the movement toward European monetary union. Professor Parkin is an experienced and dedicated teacher of introductory economics.

Very Confusing Book

I am finding this book extremely confusing. I am a straight A student in my senior year and have taken several online classes before. I am taking Macro Economics via a hybrid course and my class is taught through this book with hmrwk/quizzes/ and tests online at MyEconLab. The concepts are difficult to grasp because nothing is worded simply...It's almost like the book is trying to sound smart. I am disappointed that my college choose this book and I may end up needing to retake the class. Maybe next time they can offer video lessons to accompany the book...Khan Academy has been very useful for learning various concepts the book did not explain well.

About the Author
Margrit Schreier is Professor of Empirical Methods at Jacobs University Bremen. She started out with a BA in English Language and Literature (at New College, Oxford), before she went on to study Psychology at Heidelberg University (Dipl. Psych., Dr.) where she first became interested in qualitative research methods. She was also co-director of the Methods Center of the Bremen International Graduate School of Social Sciences (BIGSSS) and Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Media Psychology. She has taught research methods courses for 15 years, including qualitative methods, experimental design, and mixed methods, to students from a variety of social science disciplines, and has given workshops on qualitative content analysis and other methods topics at GESIS, the Leibniz Institute for the Social Sciences, for more than five years. Her other research interests include the didactics of teaching qualitative research methods, media reception, the empirical study of literature, and health-related research. She has been a principal investigator in several DFG-funded research projects on these topics, and she has authored and co-authored an introductory methods textbook and more than 90 book chapters and articles. When she is not working, she enjoys cooking and photography. She is also a homeopath and has been surprised to find that homeopathy allows her to apply many of her methods skills - including qualitative content analysis!

Very useful but has some limits

Very fine history of CA, very solid on coding, but omits designs and sampling, etc that might be of interest to some.

In the US, I'd expect more attention to epistemology as its shapes CA. I did find the European perspective very infroamtive and different.

Solid clear read, but not an intro to CA.

Highly accessible and insightful book on qualitative content analysis

This is an excellent methods book! It is not only of great practical help during the actual research process but the book also situates qualitative content analysis in the wider universe of qualitative methods. Written in a very accessible manner and with many highly instructive examples it guides you step-by-step through the entire process of a qualitative content analysis. And it provides advice on how to justify your decisions on how to proceed/continue the research process. Highly recommendable book for both students and teachers!

Among these, the Church itself hasn't clearly articulated its teachings on ethics to a lay audience, the media often misinterprets the Church's statements, and those responsible for teaching ethics may neglect or lack sufficient training to fulfill that role.

This revised edition of Catholic Ethics in Today's World has been rewritten for clarity and to reflect recent developments. Zalot and Guevin update and expand their discussion on the Church's teaching on ethics by offering thought-provoking discussion opportunities centered on such issues as the nation's recent recession, corporate fraud, the war in Afghanistan, premarital relations and birth control, reproductive technology, embryonic stem cell research, and care for the dying. About the Author
Jozef Zalot is associate professor of Religious Studies at College of Mount Saint Joseph, Cincinnati, OH. He has also taught at Mount Marty College, Yankton Federal Prison, Marquette University, and other schools and colleges. He has authored books and articles in the field, has presented at numerous professional conferences and invited lectures, and is the recipient of many scholarships and fellowships. He received his PhD in Religious Studies from Marquette University.

Benedict Guevin, OSB, is professor of Moral Theology at Saint Anselm College in Manchester, NH. Rev. Guevin holds an STD from the Institut Catholique de Paris and a PhD from the University of Paris. He has published many scholarly articles and books, and is regularly quoted in the press.
