Very practical

In game conditions are one of those things that have always been a pain in the butt, for players and GMs alike.

"What the heck does sickened mean again? Anyone remember what page the description is on?"

You can bet I'm keeping this deck right next to me throughout my group's current campaign.

The cards are easy to read, logically formatted, and even include entertaining pictures of goblins experiencing the condition in question.

Useful Item for GM's and Players.

What these cards are are descriptions of different conditions (ie sickened, blinded, etc) complete with modifiers and descriptive pictures. Tired of having to look up modifiers and have the players write them down only to have them conveniently forget them? No more! Just deal them a card, so you can keep track of it too.

The reasons I gave this four stars are twofold. 1) The package is hard to open, I ended up ripping part of it to get the flap open, so be careful. And 2) Yeah, it's the size of a pack of cards with 4 copies of each condition, which is cool, but they are double-sided with a different condition on the back, I prefer single sided cards for this type of thing and would gladly have paid more for the added convenience...

Great time-saver

I like these cards a lot. I wish the rules weren't that complicated, and the cards not needed, but that's how it is. My players groan when I pull out the deck :) The illustrations are so-so with most of them repeated for two conditions. I ripped them open the same wrong way as the other reviewer.
Back in the D&D 3.5 days I printed a bunch of like cards on my inkjet, took quite a while to do. I gladly bought those ready mades, given the price they fully deserve a five star rating. One other person in our group is buying them to use with his other group.

Brilliant - but be warned you have to buy all three books

Warning - unless you are prepared to buy all 3 books then don't bother reading, as it all one story. That being said, I am in awe of the ability by this author to weave a tangled tale of mystery suspense and romance. On edge of my seat waiting till the third book is released. I truly hate not being forewarned that I'd be sucked in to buying three books. Just be upfront at the beginning ! However worth every penny . Brilliant story telling

Amazing start to a new series!

I was honored to receive this book from Meli Raine for my honest opinion of the book and the first word that come to my mind is WOW and then I did not expect that to happen! I loved her first series which started with "Finding Allie" and I was so very excited to be given the opportunity to read this first book in her new series...with that said I will warn all of you that this is the first of three books in the series and that it ends with a cliff hanger and what a cliff hanger it is...that falls into the category of I didn't see that coming.. we meet Callie and she is going home..after her dad dies in prison for a drug convection that she in her heart knows he didn't have anything to do with! We meet Mark who if you read her first series we know is related to Chase who makes an appearance in this book as well...her return does not start out smooth..she gets flat and the person who comes to help her is Mark her love and the person she just left behind..the attraction is still there and just as strong..we see sparks..Callie is determined to clear her fathers name but in the meantime things are happening with in the area..women are disappearing..and they look like Amy Callie's one and only friend...this book had me turning pages until I found that I was at the end of it..it's passion, suspense along with some tears and some laughs I found myself wanting book 2 right now. This had everything I expected and so much more...bring on the next book as I need my fix!

Hot and Suspenseful

Wow. I did not expect that at all! I have been super busy and in a total reading funk that nothing has kept my attenion. This book had everything I needed and more. Holy hotness mixed in with mystery and suspense.

Carrie has quite the story, she is moving back to her hometown she left three years ago to follow her wrongfully accused father in prison. Now her father is dead and she was offered a job that she couldn't turn down.

When Carrie left town she left Mark behind. Oh Mark, please be good.

Windows 8.1 is free

Owners of older Windows versions must pay to upgrade to Windows 8.1, but Windows 8 and Windows RT owners can upgrade to Windows 8.1 and Windows 8.1 RT without charge. To download and install the free upgrade, open the Windows Store app from the Start screen. Then start the upgrade with a click or tap on the "Update to Windows 8.1 for Free" option.

It's easier to stay on the desktop

Windows 8 constantly forced people to switch between Windows 8's two personalities: the traditional Windows desktop, and the strange new Start screen and its world of touch-oriented apps.

Helpful to those new to Windows 8 and 8.1

Purchased in conjunction with a new PC as a gift for my mother for Christmas, Windows 8.1 for Dummies Book and DVD bundle has started her off on the right foot in transitioning from Windows 7 to 8 or 8.1 operating systems. I choose to upgrade her PC to Windows 8.1 (free from Microsoft) out of the box because of the security improvements and ease of use issues that were addressed by the upgrade. While subtle, they make a huge difference to those who are used to 7 and feel overwhelmed by 8's new look.

Some of the changes addressed by Windows 8.1 include:

- Ability to boot directly to desktop mode versus app interface.
- Adding back the 'Start' button in the desktop mode.
- Ability to put together more apps for easier mulit-tasking.
- Improved search capabilities system wide, integrating SkyDrive.

While none of these changes are a huge jump away from 8, they are improvements that make Windows more friendly.

In terms of a book like this one, those who are already familiar with Windows 8, probably don't need to buy this book if you already feel fairly competent at using the OS. Current users may find other books like Windows 8.1: The Missing Manual more useful.

The DVD helped my mother, as she is a 'visual' learner, but for some it may be unnecessary. Windows 8.1 For Dummies is the DVD-free version of this book if you simply would like to read and not watch this information.

When we first bought our new computer it had windows 8.1 After using it we found that we absolutely hated it. Tried working it and found we hated it all the more. Found that it sucked all the joy out of using the computer. We thought we would give the windows 8.1 for dummies a try. Reading this book helped us to understand the program. It worked us through all areas we had trouble with, and did it in a way that was easy to understand. We now love the windows 8.1 It has brought the joy in using the computer back

The DVD was a great introduction!

The old saying was that a picture was worth a thousand words. Well if that is the case, a video is worth a lot more than that. I've been using Windows since version 3.0, but I had been avoiding Windows 8 and 8.1. Why? Expert Paul Thurrott stated that Windows 8 is a disaster and "has set back Microsoft and Windows by years, and possibly for good." The Windows 8.1 has been called "slightly less terrible" as it did not fix many user complaints. There are still a number of annoyances, one being that the 8.1 Start button just takes you back to the Metro Start screen with colorful tiles and does not show a true Start menu with a list of programs like in Windows 7. In 8.1 the Start menu is still dead and a third party fix is still necessary if you want a Windows 7-like Start menu. There are numerous annoyances and the learning curve has been described as steep.

I finally got a new computer that came with Windows 8.1. I have to say that the Dummies DVD was a great introduction that showed a lot of the 8.1 changes and how 8.1 works (or doesn't work). It was great to see it in a video rather than trying to read instructions step by step while trying to view pictures of screenshots.

The DVD states: "The videos show you step-by-step how to use every new feature of Windows 8.1. Tackle the re-designed Start screen, use the Charms bar, organize and launch apps, and then connect to the internet, manage the Windows Mail app, and add your social media accounts. Toss in search, user accounts, and how to manage photos, video, and music, and you have the ultimate show-and-tell."

I didn't read a lot of the book. I used it more as a reference when I had a question. It seemed to offer good coverage of many topics and had a good index.

If you find that you like Windows 7 better than Windows 8.1, you can make Windows 8.1 look and function more like Windows 7. Download and install Classic Shell, a freeware Start menu very similar to the Windows 7 start menu. Then do a search for Make Windows 8.1 Like Windows 7. I never see the Metro or Modern screen with the colored tiles any more, and I haven't missed it.

My son, who does not like to read, is suddenly a reader!

That statement enough should convince you to buy one of these books as a test. I bought one book for my son, who is 11 and suffers from Asperger's. He has never been a reader and even has no interest in the Harry Potter series. He has enjoyed Encyclopedia Brown so much that he took a book on a weekend getaway with us.

These are the same books I enjoyed as a child. They do not seem to have been updated or make politically correct for today's sheltered youth. There is no objectionable or even questionable language. Encyclopedia Brown is respectful, decent and helpful. I am delighted that my child, who has had no love for reading, read the first of these books in one day.

Our 7 year old grandson really enjoyed this book! He is a reluctant reader so we've been trying different books series out to hook him into reading more. I remembered this series was popular a while back so we tried it and he loved it! We'll be checking out more of these.

Human immortality has been of deep interest to many people for hundreds of years or more. Almost everyone experiences anxiety at the thought of dying. Death has been an impenetrable mystery in all of literature in science, philosophy and religion. Those who believe in life after death have practically no information about that life. Hundreds of thousands of people have reported having a near death experience (NDE) and dozens of books have been published of such accounts. Despite this however, details have remained few or nonexistent regarding what life after death is like and how people then live. There is a desperate need for many people to understand rationally what is death and what happens afterward.

The books of Jung and Swedenborg are unique in modern science literature in that together they provide a full account of dying, death, and the afterlife lifestyles that exist there. Is heaven for real? Is there a hell? Why does God keep people in hell? What are the societies of the afterlife in which everyone lives after death? Can you talk to the departed? What is the role of religion in the afterlife? How long does it take between dying and being resuscitated from death into the afterlife? What kind of body do we then have and is it capable of pleasure? Are there marriages in the afterlife?

These questions and many more are answered fully in the combined books of Jung and Swedenborg. Both of these authors were capable of being conscious of the afterlife and both were able to communicate with many who were there, some of whom they knew in this world before they passed on. This book presents many passages from both authors that are easily overlooked in the original given the dozens of volumes that they each published.

When brought together in this collection with ample explanations by the author there is a striking realization that these two scientists have totally demystified death and dying, and have given us observational and empirical proof that life after death exists, and what it’s like. The anxiety of death vanishes with the certainty of our immortality. But more than that, we are given the rational means of deciding how we want to prepare for that life while we are still here. We are immeasurably advantaged when we can understand the cause-effect connection that exists between our habits of thinking and doing in this life and our habits of thinking and doing in the afterlife. Our eternal happiness or unhappiness is at stake. This book helps us to understand how we can control our destiny in eternity.

A Captivating "Must Read" ............Boo F. 8/27/15

This book is riveting! I felt myself growing spiritually through each chapter. It was so easy to grow, with those in the Cave, as I surrendered daily walking out what was shared in the Cave. Trying to grasp the quantum physics explanations were hard and challenging yet exciting and explosive. It is hard to explain but my spirit was soaring and my head was screaming, "Stop...I can't take anymore." Yet a few minutes later, I was re-reading to grasp who God is and what He has for me as a believer. The fruitcake depiction is a powerful lesson. Growing in my understanding of the fruit of the Spirit is so much fun! My spirit man has grown, in leaps and bounds, in reading this book.

Deep insights in christian basics, in the form of a narrative

This is revolutionary stuff. The Cave is profound in its insight in the spiritual gifts, growing in a gifting and how all of this cooperates with the fruits of the Spirit. All this is presented in the form of a narrative, which makes it so much easier to grasp for young adults and young christians. Not many books offer these deep insights.

Besides the above mentioned themes, the author also takes the readers along into a deeper insight in some of the mysteries of life and of life-with-God.

Could also be used with small groups in churches or youth groups as the themes are more or less condensed in chapters. The practicum experiences of the main characters can be practiced by the group (readers).
