Deliciously Heretical!

This revision fantasy of the Crucifixion so alarmed her publisher that he refused to publish it saying "I fear the effect on the public mind!" Undaunted, Marie takes the book to a new publisher and Barabbas became one of her first international successes. It is the first book in a trilogy by Corelli where she reformed the whole history of Christianity and the devil to suit her own phantasmagorical faith. All three books contain elements of cynicism, brutality, and heresy wrapped inside a blanket of uplifting, often sentimental theosophic theories of the soul. Quite a dish to be served in Victorian times! I say Kudos, Marie! You really did listen to the beat of a different drummer and what a delight it is to revel in your rhythms!!

and I have very good vision. No need for glasses

First off, I haven't read this, yet. Why the 2 stars? The font is minuscule!!!! I have recently had my eyes checked, and I have very good vision. No need for glasses. I seriously need to go to CVS to pickup some 1.25+ glasses (at the very least) to read this book! The margins are 1 inch on the sides and about 1.5 inches on the top and bottom. Why not increase the font?! I don't get it.

A good read

This was my fifth book by Ms. Corelli and liked it second best to The Life Everlasting. Only two more to go of the seven books she that she mentions go together in her prologue to The Life Everlasting. Wondering if there are any later of her books that belong to this series?

Provides new ideas, patterns, insights

(a) The book offers a number of practical insights into the use of technical analysis for trading. It provides a hands on (how do you decide the market is non trending?), rather than a theoritical approach(use oscillators in non trending markets).

(b) It is not an easy read, but I could get to some of the ideas on my second attempt. This is not a problem, but just a warning not to expect an easy reading experience.

(c) A number of nuggets are hidden in the pages. Bollinger Bands, Multiple time frames, Patterns for deciding a market reversal, using MACD to determine a continuation. Probably every page has some setup, strategy to discuss. I think a patient reader will obtain any number of good ideas from the book.

A step forward

It follows the tradition of Elder and DeMark, but goes further in providing a rationale for the trading system. The proposed system differs but apparently benefited from the ideas behind the Adaptive Moving Averages. The best feature of the book is that it allows one to think systematically about market dynamics and the failures of the indicators. It is conceptually intuitive, but requires patience to get over the details.

The book offers a much needed critical evaluation of the accepted wisdom in technical analysis and provides a constructive way forward. The author does an excellent job in pointing out the major pitfalls of technical analysis and presents an effective framework to address them. A mind-opening work, a must read if you wish to do your own thinking. Basic knowledge about technical analaysis is necessary to appreciate the powerful insight offered by the book.

Tom Almy has written application programs for many microcontrollers and microprocessors from Freescale Semiconductor, Intel, Zilog, Atmel, and others. He has taught courses in digital design and programming for over 20 years and has worked in the electronics industry for 38 years. Tom holds eleven patents, most pertaining to digital and analog circuit designs. Tom received a MSEE degree from Stanford University and a BS with Distinction in Electrical Engineering from Cornell University.

Great Book!

I'm in my last semester of college for Elec. Engineering. I took micro-controllers previously and have used them some for small projects. I'm using the mini-dragon+2 for my senior design and this book was recommended by my professor. I have to say it is a huge benefit for anyone doing an extensive project with a micro-controller from the 68HCS12 family. It is much more complete than 2 other books I have on the 68HCS12 machines made by Freescale.

far less than expected.

Explaining the operation of each register without any introduction and conceptual explanation. Even if u r good in micro-controller programming, u can not understand the author easily before being familiar with the data-sheet. It might be a good reference menu, but never a good introductory study material. The author is always talking to himself but never think about what a new in micro-controller is thinking.

Great approach to learning how to use The 68HCS12

I used this book in a couple micro controller classes and found it extremely usefully. What I like the best are the examples in the book. After reading the text and then I would refer to the examples, it is the best way to learn. Great approach to learning The 68HCS12.

I would definitely recommend.

About the Author
George Samuel Clason was born in Louisiana, Missouri, on November 7th, 1874. He attended the University of Nebraska and served in the United States Army during the Spanish-American War. A successful businessman, he founded the Clason Map Company of Denver, Colorado and published the first road atlas of the United States and Canada. In 1926, he issued the first of a famous series of pamphlets on thrift and financial success, using parables set in ancient Babylon to make each of his points. These were distributed in large quantities by banks and insurance companies and became familiar to millions, the most famous being “The Richest Man in Babylon,” the parable from which the present volume takes its title. These “Babylonian parables” have become a modern inspirational classic.

Even better the fifth time around!

I first heard about this book 17 years ago. At that time, I was in a direct sales company and had the good fortune to attend a seminar conducted by a businessman named Jim Rohn.
Mr. Rohn talked about his early mentor, a man named Earl Schoff and went on to tell us how Mr. Schoff turned him on to personal development and pointed him to the right books to read. One of the most important books, said Rohn was The Richest Man in Bablyon.
Rohn had made and lost a fortune but came back and made another fortune and gave credit to the principles in The Richest Man in Bablyon for helping him accomplish that feat.
I read The Richest Man in Bablyon and have to admit, I hated it! I thought it was stupid, like feel good stuff that has no substance. When ever friends came over, I hid the book. I felt so ridiculous.
But Mr. Rohns words of wisdom kept echeoing in my mind. So I read it over and over untill the principles were imbedded into my conscious and subconsious mind.
Soon, after the fifth reading, the the principles became habits for me. My wealth esculated at a very rapid rate. I was no longer wasting money. I was now investing the first 10% of my income, tithing 10% and investing another 10% in capital like no load mutuals, real estate, discounted mortgages, tax liens and my own business.
The Richest Man in Bablyon has 7 basic principles:
1) Start thy purse to fattening - save/invest
2) Control thy expenditures - watch out for self serving brokers
3) Make thy gold mutiply - use powerful investments
4) Guard thy treasures from loss - watch out for brokers with
their hot tips.
5) Make of thy dwelling a profitable investment - rental properties, your own home---but stay within your means.
6) Insure a future income - do work that you love to do. Become excellent at it.
7) Increase thy ability to earn - education never stops. Keep reading good books like this one, The Millionaire Next Door, Rich Dad Poor Dad and so on.

POWERFUL, VERY POWERFUL BOOK!

I am continually amazed at how a book so small can contain so much content and be so powerful. This book should be mandatory reading beginning at the grade school level through college and should be given as a gift right along with a diploma.
I took the advice of acde1034@yahoo.com who recommended 'The Millionaire next Door" and "More Weath without Risk" and bought and have read both. Both of these books are in the same status as "The Richest Man in Bablyon" and should also be required reading by anyone who is serious about their financial future. I am now giving "Richest Man in Bablyon" as a accessory gift to a cash gift at weddings and graduations.

The older version was better.

I read the Revised version (1995) and really enjoyed that. I purchased the 21st Century edition and was really disappointed. Some key ideas that I thought were very important like "don't get so consumed with acquiring wealth that you forget to enjoy life" were taken out of this edition. Also an entire chapter was removed that taught the importance of hard work. Not only that but the layout of book is much less aesthetically pleasing, making it more difficult to read. So I wouldn't buy this edition. I highly recommend the revised edition (yellow cover).

Tender, funny short story from the Queen of Love and Laughter

This is one of my favorite Jill Barnett books, even though it's only a Christmas novella. It reminds me of those wonderful holiday movies like It's A Wonderful Life and Miracle on 34th Street, with it's magical quality and truths about life and love and materialism. I will reread this every year. The very best of Christmas stories.

Ms. Barnett has given us a story that brings happy tears and brings to mind stories of old. This was so beautifully written I could see it as a holiday movie in my head. If you're a romantic who loves happy endings and the Christmas spirit, this is for you!

Fun romantic magical short story!

Lillian is a novice heavenly angel who is having difficulties. She has been causing problems in heaven and her latest has damaged the pearly gates. It is decided that she will return to earth.
D.L. Stewart's coach had hit a woman that just appeared in the road! There wasn't time to stop as she just seemed to materialize out of thin air. D.L. quickly tries to assist her and ends up taking her home. D.L. is a very wealthy man who lives in a very nice house. He also has a very wise attorney who is afraid that the nice woman may just sue D.L. So he tells D.L. not to let the woman out of his sight until he gets a release signed by the nice lady.
It is Lillian's assignment to get D.L. to stop living only for money and to soften up his heart. This is such a cute romantic and magical story. It was fun to read and leaves you with a sense of well being when the story ends.

The Book You Grab First

Probably the best way to convey some idea of the broad scope of this book is to simply give the headings of the various sections of the book, rembering that each section contains from a handful to a bunch of chapters covering their own specialty:

I - VLSI Technology

II - Devices and Their Models

III - Low Power Electronics and Design

IV - Amplifiers

V - Logic Circuits

VI - Memory, Registers and System Timing

VII - Analog Circuits

VIII - Microprocessor and ASIC

IX - Testing of Digital Systems

X - Compound Semiconductor Integrated Circuit Technology

XI - Design Automation

XI - VLSI Signal Processing

XIII - Design Languages

Each chapter in each section is written by an individual or team that is expert in that particular subject. As their accumulated wisdom tends to be at the state of the art in that particular field, this is not a book for the complete beginner. It is intended for the working engineer, probably BS level, with a need for a one-source reference to keep abreast of new techniques and procedures as well as review standard practices. It is easily the most complete source of information on VLSI available.
